Familiar with the BMW X Series? We're guessing you are. Mostly because the BMW family of crossovers has seen increasing demand across the globe and serves as one of the automaker's most popular lineups. So popular in fact, that company officials have decided it best to expand one of U.S.-based plants that makes them.
Over the next three years, the BMW facility in Spartanburg, South Carolina will expand its capacity and receive approximately $900 million in funds. In other words, the southern plant can expect around 300 new jobs and a seriously ramped up BMW X Series output. While the luxury car maker certainly attributes a lot of its production power to the hard-working employees that South Carolina continues to produce, the company/state relationship is quite symbiotic.
Nikki Haley, Governor of South Carolina, says, "The partnership between this company and our State is an enduring example of how to attract, retain and grow business to stimulate perpetual job creation."1 This is not the first time BMW has provided Spartanburg with a substantial fiscal injection and increased jobs. Between 2008 and 2010, the automaker invested a total of $750 million in order to successfully produce the new BMW X3.
